"I am a television producer with CBS by day, an MFA student at Brooklyn College by night, and a short fiction writer whenever I can be. My work is character-driven, and tends to explore issues of isolation and disconnectedness, often through the intersections of pop culture, media, and the individual. My first widely publicized short story was written in the second grade, and read by Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show. Since then, I have worked as an arts and entertainment journalist, a freelance writer and researcher, a non-profit jack-of-all-trades, and a media studies instructor for homebound and disabled seniors. Born in South Korea, I was raised primarily in Minnesota (a location that appears in many of my stories); educated in England, Guatemala, India, and the U.S.; and since 1999, I have lived in Brooklyn, NY.”
While in Oysterville, Kristen completed drafts of five short stories. She also received notification that she had been awarded the Himan Brown Award in Creative Writing. Much of Kristen’s current writing will be included in her MFA thesis.
