Resident Jun’ichiro Ishida October 2007

Visual artist Jun’ichiro Ishida of Brooklyn,NY completed a new series of abstract paintingsreflecting his subconscious thoughts while he was staying at Espy.  In addition to working on his “Lotus” pieces, Ishida made two small imaginary landscape paintings and two drawings about another world.

During the final weeks of his residency Ishida gathered local objects including oyster shells, driftwood, stones, and tree limbs to create a “Wetland Mandala,” a three dimensional, interactive work of art. This mandala is the fourth in a series of Mandalas that Ishida has created in different parts of the United States. “My goal as an
artist is to give my audiences a new vision with which to appreciate their lives, making them realize the preciousness of each moment and the intricate interconnection of the world.”
